New York, New York

Times Sqaure subwayNew York Dirty donsmomaThe grand old city of New York. The first time I visited this city I was 10, it was 1990 and I don’t feel I was really at an appropriate age to appreciate the lure of the lights. I do remember thinking the Empire state building was cool, I loved my foam statue of liberty hat and torch and laughing at the yellow cabs. I also thought it was dirty, noisy, incomprehensible and dangerous – a view probably instilled into me by my friend’s Mum I was staying with.

Fast forward 15 years…New York is definitely more fun past the legal drinking age! It’s a crazy city, everything seems larger than life and rather like walking around in a film set. Times Square is huge, large enough that you feel like a tiny pod person standing looking up at the skyscrapers. Tribeca (were I crashed in the flat Becca and Olly had rented) and the East village were much more me, good restaurants, fun bars although due to Olly’s input in the decision making process I’m not sure I’ve actually been into a straight bar in New York. Still, I saw an amazing drag act and got slightly disturbed in the unisex toilet! We had Easter Sunday breakfast at BB Kings eating mountains of bagels and listening to gospel music, rode around tour buses, shopped in Bloomingdales and spent a very wet afternoon taking amusing photos in MoMa!
